  • The New York State Department of Health launched the second installation of its Value Based Payment (VBP) University, an online resource to inform stakeholders on a more detailed view of the VBP world. This semester’s curriculum includes summary documents from the Fall 2017 VBP Bootcamps, information on the Medicare Access & Children´s Health Insurance Reauthorization Act (MACRA), guidance documents for Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), and guidance documents for addressing social determinants of health through VBP.   • New York City’s ThriveNYC initiative has created the Mental Health Service Corps (MHSC) with the goal of placing clinicians in settings within high-need communities. This program places recent social work, mental health and psychology graduates into both primary care and behavioral health settings with the hopes of closing care gaps in mental health and substance use services. Each MHSC member must commit to three years of service. The city covers their yearly salary and provides weekly supervision (which is required for licensure).   • The NYC Health Department, in partnership with NYCHA, has developed palm cards to raise awareness among NYCHA residents about Smoke-Free NYCHA and to provide information on resources for smoking cessation. The cards are available in English on one side and Spanish on the other. English/Russian and an English/Chinese versions will be available in July. If you’re interested in receiving the palm cards in bulk to distribute to your clients or community, email tobacco@health.nyc.gov to learn if your request can be accommodated. Please note that it may take a few weeks for your request to be fulfilled.
